In my herb garden I saw the first shoots of my wild garlic patch come through the ground around Christmas. Most shoots are now about 3 cm high but a small number of bulbs had leaves - enough to harvest about 50 leaves. The leaves were not fully grown about 6-8 cm long but were duly used.
We had linguini with wild garlic, chilli and olive oil; a sort of springtime version of spaghetti con alio e olio.

Garlic is health and delicious in salads... we are used to garlics very much!

the garlic here in devon england is about to flower so stand by friends garlic breath is back

Pro Well if the wild garlic in Devon is about to flower it is a good month ahead of that in Hampshire. However you definitely get Spring earlier in the SW.
Enjoy it! If you invite your friends to eat with you then nobody will notice the breath

I am so pleased to say that the wild garlic has survived in my garden and there are now a few leaves coming through, though not enough to harvets. I am going to leave it to develop into a much bigger patch for next year.

Pro Glad it has resurfaced after the winter! You may have some young plants which need the time to grow their bulbs. Ones that produce big leaves can usually be harvested without a problem. They produce seed that germinates in the late Autumn.

I'd like to thank you very much for your Wild Garlic articles and recipes. I planted some purely for ornamental purposes a couple of years ago and noticed how well they're still doing now (end April). As a result of the global financial crisis (resulting in myself also being jobless!) I've just started growing other veg and was curious as to whether I could use the wild garlic I already had. Thank you!!!
